HomeVenture installs DECRA stone-coated steel roofing across Evansville, Newburgh, Henderson, Owensboro and the surrounding Tri-State area. DECRA is a long-established manufacturer of steel roofing made to look like traditional shingles, wood shake and tile.
A stone-coated roof is built from formed steel panels with natural stone granules embedded in an acrylic coating. It gives you a traditional roof appearance without hiding that you are buying a metal roof system.
Stone-coated steel is usually the highest-cost metal system we install, and it is not the right answer for every house. It makes the most sense when the traditional appearance is worth the added material and installation cost. If standing seam fits the home and the budget better, we will tell you before quoting either system.
Every HomeVenture metal reroof starts with a complete tear-off. We inspect and photograph the deck before covering it, then identify the exact DECRA profile, gauge, attachment method, minimum slope, underlayment, fasteners and flashing details in the written proposal.
Metal shingles or standing seam?
Two different looks, both built from steel
Standing seam uses long panels that run from the eave toward the ridge, with raised seams and concealed field fasteners. Stone-coated steel uses shorter formed panels laid in courses. The difference changes the appearance, installation method and price.
Choose stone-coated steel when you want the strength of a metal roof with the appearance of dimensional shingles, hand-split wood shake or tile. It works especially well on highly visible roofs and homes where a traditional profile fits the architecture better than smooth vertical panels.
Choose standing seam when you want clean vertical lines, long panels and fewer horizontal laps. Standing seam also commonly costs less than stone-coated steel on the same house.
The stone-granule surface has a textured, less reflective appearance than smooth painted metal. It also helps dampen rain sound. What you hear inside still depends on the complete roof, attic and ceiling assembly.
This is a question of appearance, roof geometry and budget. Both are legitimate premium metal roofing systems when correctly specified and installed.

After inspecting the roof, we narrow the choices to the profiles that fit the house and are available through our supplier. The exact profile and system go in the written proposal.
Gauge by itself does not tell you whether one metal roof is better than another. A formed DECRA panel and a flat standing seam panel are different tested roof assemblies. Compare the entire system, including the profile, attachment, substrate, fastener pattern, minimum slope and flashing details.
What the panels are made from
DECRA panels begin with aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel. An acrylic priming system and acrylic basecoat secure ceramic-coated natural stone granules to the steel. An acrylic overglaze protects the finished surface.
The coating gives the roof its color, texture and traditional appearance. Minor loose granules during or after installation and over time can be normal. Excessive or concentrated granule loss is different and should be inspected.
Direct-to-deck and batten systems
Shingle XD, Shake XD and Villa Tile are direct-to-deck systems. DECRA Shake and DECRA Tile install on battens. HomeVenture removes the old roofing first in either case, verifies the deck and then builds the manufacturer-approved assembly for the selected profile.
The written proposal identifies the deck or batten attachment, fastener type, fastening pattern and tested assembly. Those details are not left to a verbal conversation.
Underlayment and deck preparation
Every DECRA profile requires manufacturer-approved underlayment. HomeVenture installs full-coverage underlayment over a deck that has been exposed, inspected and photographed. The proposal names the exact underlayment and any self-adhered membrane locations before work begins.
If damaged decking is found, we document it with photographs. Any work outside the included decking allowance is shown to you and approved before the additional work proceeds.
Flashing and trim details
The profile changes how hips, ridges, valleys, sidewalls, headwalls, eaves, rakes, slope changes and penetrations are finished. DECRA makes system-specific channels, valleys, underpans, hip and ridge pieces and other accessories for these conditions.
Our proposal identifies the details required for your roof. Panel cuts, bends, accessories, penetrations and completed flashing are photographed during installation and included in the closeout file.
Why stone-coated steel costs more
More pieces and more detail work
Stone-coated steel often costs more than standing seam on the same house because the formed panels and matching accessories carry a higher material cost. The roof is assembled from many shorter pieces that require more layout, cutting and detail work than long standing seam panels.
The difference grows on roofs with hips, valleys, walls, slope changes, skylights and other penetrations. The exact price depends on the selected profile, roof geometry, access, deck condition and flashing scope.
We can price stone-coated steel and standing seam for the same house so you can see what the traditional appearance costs and decide whether it is worth it to you.

How we install it

Inspection and system selection.
We inspect the roof geometry, pitch, deck where visible, ventilation, drainage and flashing conditions. We then recommend the metal system and DECRA profile that fit the house.

Written specification.
The proposal identifies the manufacturer, profile, color, gauge, minimum slope, attachment method, substrate, fasteners, fastening pattern, tested assembly, underlayment, ventilation and flashing details.

Tear-off and deck verification.
We remove the existing roofing down to the deck. The exposed deck is inspected and photographed before the new assembly covers it. HomeVenture does not install metal over existing shingles.

Underlayment and panel installation.
We install the specified underlayment, attachment system, panels, accessories and flashings. Defined photo checkpoints document the work before later courses or trim conceal it.

Quality control and closeout.
The completed roof is inspected before closeout. You receive the approved scope, product information, manufacturer warranty, HomeVenture warranty information and organized installation photographs in your project file.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about metal shingles
What are DECRA metal shingles made from?
DECRA panels are formed from aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel. Acrylic coatings secure ceramic-coated natural stone granules to the surface and protect the finished roof. They are steel roofing panels with a factory-applied stone finish, not a coating applied at your house.
Are DECRA metal shingles aluminum?
No. The panels are steel protected by an aluminum-zinc alloy coating. Aluminum shingles are a different roofing product. Your HomeVenture proposal identifies the exact steel substrate, profile and gauge so there is no ambiguity.
How do I choose between stone-coated steel and standing seam?
Start with the look you want. Stone-coated steel resembles dimensional shingles, wood shake or tile. Standing seam has clean vertical metal panels. Then compare the roof geometry and the installed price. We can quote both systems when both fit the house.
Why does stone-coated steel cost more than standing seam?
The formed panels and matching accessories cost more, and the roof takes more layout, cutting and detail work because it is assembled from many shorter pieces. Complex roofs increase that difference.
Is a stone-coated steel roof noisy when it rains?
It does not sound like bare metal over an open barn. The textured panel surface helps dampen rain sound, while the deck, underlayment, attic and ceiling insulation further affect what you hear inside. We do not promise that every roof assembly will sound identical.
What is the hail rating?
DECRA currently lists its stone-coated steel profiles with a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest classification under that test. Class 4 does not mean the roof cannot dent, lose granules or show cosmetic marks. The proposal identifies the exact profile and rating, and the manufacturer warranty controls what is covered.
Can you install it over my existing shingles?
No. Although some DECRA assemblies and local codes may permit installation over existing roofing, HomeVenture does not offer that assembly. We tear off every metal reroof so we can inspect and photograph the deck, verify the attachment substrate and rebuild the flashing details from the deck up.
What warranty comes with a DECRA roof?
DECRA currently provides a Lifetime Limited Warranty to the original owner of an eligible detached single-family home. The warranty can be transferred once during the first 20 years when DECRA's transfer requirements are followed, including notice within 30 days of the ownership change. Coverage is limited and changes as the roof ages, so we provide the actual manufacturer document instead of reducing it to the word “lifetime.” HomeVenture's written workmanship coverage is separate and is included with the project documents.
How long will it last, and what maintenance does it need?
No honest contractor can promise one exact lifespan for every house. Installation quality, exposure, foot traffic, storm damage, debris and maintenance all affect how a roof ages. Keep valleys and gutters clear, have flashings and penetrations inspected periodically and after major storms, and let a contractor familiar with the system handle roof traffic and repairs.
